We now offer snow chains to customers hiring skis or snowboards with us! However, for your safety and to ensure the correct fit, chains must still be matched to your vehicle in person.
Here’s what you need to know:
✅ Vehicle Compatibility Required
Not all vehicles can safely use snow chains. Some newer cars—especially those with low clearance, wide tyres, or certain drivetrains—may not have enough space around the wheels or may be unsuitable for chains altogether.✅ In-Person Check at Pickup
To keep you and your vehicle safe, we’ll confirm compatibility when you collect your gear. This includes checking your tyre size, clearance, and vehicle manual. We may decline to supply chains if we believe they are unsafe to use on your vehicle.
👉 If that happens, we’ll remove the cost of chains from your hire and refund the difference.📌 Tip: Check your vehicle’s handbook or ask your manufacturer if snow chains are allowed before you travel.
-
Snow chains are usually fitted on the mountain road closer to the resort, not at our store.
We’ll show you how to fit them before you leave, and provide access to instructional videos so you feel confident doing it yourself.
Tip: Chain fitting services are sometimes available on the road (by third-party operators), but they are not always guaranteed.

✅ Legal Requirement in Victoria
Chains are legally required to be carried on Victorian alpine roads during snow season, even if you have a 4WD. If your vehicle cannot take chains, we strongly advise against driving to the snow. They must be carried from Mirimbah entry onwards and fitted when instructed to do so. A chain fitting service is provided by a commercial operator for a fee (cash only).
